Perhaps a silly question, but here goes.

I know you have to reveal available targets up to your tactical rating (ie you cant stop when you like what you see and/or are afraid of the swarm of
soon-to-be-revealed DDs) but what about applying TDCs? If you reveal combat events and/or aircraft, are you required to fire blind at unflipped targets or can
you choose to not place all of your TDC counters?

Ahhh, I have it now!!! Eureka!! (sparing everyone, i shall refrain from running down the street...)
I had misinterpreted the rules, you are correct! I had assumed that when you assigned a TDC to an unrevealed target, you were required to fire on it. Now,
looking closer, what I should have read was that if you assign attack factors blindly and then find that you cannot possibly hit, you have still fired and thus
must expose yourself to ASW. But, and this is the crucial part, I have...

Thanks for pointing that out, I suspected that was the case but hadn't found the relevant chapter line and verse.

As for your question, just because you put a TDC on it doesn't mean you have to shoot at it. I think of TDC's as scanning in the scope and moving the
boat.

I've played that way, it just seems odd to force me to let a fish off for a blind shot if I've already got targets in my sights. I agree with reveals,
but I think the TDC on unrevealed targets is off, forces you to expend torpedoes on what is often a wasted shot. If you are going to force me to reveal more
ships, fine, but don't then require me to chuck shots off at a sonar only contact at 2500 yds. Oh well, stepping down off soapbox now <img...

My understanding is you have to apply the TDC counters as well, so yes in the instance you give where you find a combat event you would have to risk another
reveal.

A sub question to yours is can you apply TDC's outside of the collums you can shoot at. I've always assumed no but I've seen no specific
information on it.
