Hi,
There are currently only two wargames that attempt to simulate the Peloponnesian War. The first is Victory Games' "Peloponnesian War". The second is Clash of Arms' "Epic of the Peloponnesian War". The former was designed for solitaire play and fails horribly as a two player game. The latter went too far as a simulation, requiring excessive amounts of setup time, the playing time is too long, and there's too much book keeping.
I believe now would be the ideal time to create a two player CDG of the Peloponnesian War. The somewhat chaotic nature of a CDG is a perfect fit since neither side had anything resembling a coherent long term strategy to win the war, as politics, intrigue and treason relegated both sides to a largely reactionary approach to the war when it went much longer than the two to three years that both sides predicted.
I believe I'm the person to write such a game. I have the background as both a student of ancient history (I have both a B.S. and M.A. in Classical Civ) and a long time wargamer.
The plan is to borrow the best of the CDG's, such as Hannibal: Rome vs Carthage and Paths of Glory, along with one or two non-CDG's, and combine it with the crucial elements that made the Peloponnesian War unique - naval warfare, economics and politics. I believe I can manage to keep the game relatively simple, yet interesting to both students of history and newcomers alike.
I have already begun writing the rules, and have a fair selection of cards created.
